Old Public Trust
Heritage; Commercial; Seismic Retrofit
The Old Public Trust Building on Lambton Quay, which opened in 1908, is a category 1 listed heritage building constructed of stone, masonry and steel.
The strengthening of this building required innovative engineering solutions to retain the building’s unique character.
The structural system utilises sprayed concrete walls with steel coupling beams in one direction and in-depth analysis of the building’s existing strength in the other direction to reduce the extent of intervention and impact on the interior spaces.
In-depth collaboration with the other design consultants and the contractor was required to complete the design and construction in a short timeframe.
