Location: Wellington

Completed: 2013

Victoria University’s new campus hub occupies the institution’s former quad – replacing the barren concrete courtyard with a multi-level, multi-purpose space. Linking the university’s other buildings to the library, it provides an all-weather common area, and aligns the ground levels of all the buildings in this space.

The suspended central structure, excavation of the previous quad, and design of appropriate interfaces and seismic separations with the numerous existing buildings surrounding the Hub all presented unique engineering challenges.

The result is a robust yet elegant building that has provided a new social heart to the Kelburn campus.
